چکیده

We present a new way of studying the classical and still unsolved problem of the reconstruction of a domino tiling from its row and column projections. After giving a simple greedy strategy for solving the problem from one projection, we introduce the concept of degree of a domino tiling. We generalize an algorithm for the reconstruction of domino tilings of degree two from two projections, to domino tilings of degree three and four. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Attenuation Correction in SPECT during Image Reconstruction using an Inverse Monte Carlo Method: A Simulation Study

Introduction: The main goal of SPECT imaging is to determine activity distribution inside the organs of the body. However, due to photon attenuation, it is almost impossible to do a quantitative study. In this paper, we suggest a mathematical relationship between activity distribution and its corresponding projections using a transfer matrix. Monte Carlo simulation was used to find a precise tr...

Alternating-Sign Matrices and Domino Tilings (Part I)

We introduce a family of planar regions, called Aztec diamonds, and study tilings of these regions by dominoes. Our main result is that the Aztec diamond of order n has exactly 2()/ domino tilings. In this, the first half of a two-part paper, we give two proofs of this formula. The first proof exploits a connection between domino tilings and the alternating-sign matrices of Mills, Robbins, and ...

Intersecting Domino Tilings

In this note we consider an Erdős-Ko-Rado analog of tilings. Namely given two tilings of a common region we say that they intersect if they have at least one tile in the same location. We show that for a domino tiling of the 2×n strip that the largest collection of tilings which pairwise intersect are counted by the Fibonacci numbers. We also solve the problem for tilings of the 3×(2n) strip us...

A model based, anatomy dependent method for ultra-fast creation of primary SPECT projections

Introduction: Monte Carlo (MC) is the most common method for simulating virtual SPECT projections. It is useful for optimizing procedures, evaluating correction algorithms and more recently image reconstruction as a forward projector in iterative algorithms; however, the main drawback of MC is its long run time. We introduced a model based method considering the eff...
